At Thunder Pup we know that you want to be a confident dog owner who is proud of your furry friends. In order to do that, you need to effectively communicate with your dog. The problem is, you and your pup are both speaking different languages which makes you feel helpless. We believe you deserve to have an unbreakable bond with your dog. We understand how hard it is to find a trainer who fits your needs which is why we have years of experience in just the right areas.

Here at Thunder Pup we use a balanced training method with positive reinforcement, which simply means that we pull from various training methods to create a customized plan that fits your specific pup’s needs. We do whatever is necessary to allow you to effectively communicate with your dog.

We believe that every situation is unique and every dog should be treated with respect and given the chance to shine! That is why we offer FREE evaluations to gauge your pup’s unique needs as well as the time availability and capabilities on your end as an owner. Remember that the best dog/owner relationships come from clear communication and expectations from both parties. This can be tricky to navigate at times, but we KNOW that we can help you and your pup achieve the ultimate relationship that you can be proud of!

Our founder, Kara Hanas, started Thunder Pup to help stressed out dog owners just like you form a manageable bond with their furry friends. Kara has faced a problem dog herself and saw multiple trainers before she found someone who could really help. She struggled with finding trainers who were affordable and someone who would listen to the exact problem she was facing with her dog.

So she took it upon herself to gain experience in basic obedience and behavior training and within the first few years fell in love! She started increasing her skillset and adding years of experience in the areas of foundation obedience, basic obedience, behavioral issues, reactivity, aggressive dog management, and problem behaviors. She has been active in Schutzhund/IGP/IPO (competition tracking, obedience, and protection) for 9 years. She has also been active in Mondioring. Kara is an active member of United Schutzhund Clubs of America, DVG, and Working Molossers United. She is an active member of Greater Dallas Working Dog Club, Aussenseiter Club, and Lagniappe Working Corsi Club.
She is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and has the ability to get your dog certified for the Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine (advanced) and CGCU (urban).

And while Kara has over a decade of experience, she hasn’t stopped learning. She has been fortunate to have been mentored by some of the best trainers in the world who have competed and podiumed at national and world events. She understands that continued education is extremely important. She regularly attends seminars and stays close with her mentors. She is a firm believer that every dog is different and it’s important to have a tool box filled with different approaches.
